Boris Petrikovsky MD PhD
Dr. B. Petrikovsky, MD, PhD has been Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at North Shore University Hospital, Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Nassau University Medical Center, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University School of Medicine, and is currently Director of Maternal and Fetal Medicine at New York Downtown Hospital. He has won multiple national research awards, and authorized over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 2 textbooks – What your unborn baby wants you to know: A complete guide to a healthy pregnancy, and Fetal Disorder: Diagnosis and management-hardcover).
Fellow, American College of Surgeons. Recipient of 2007 Excellence Award by American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists.
Dr. Petrikovsky is a pioneer of endoscopy in labor, (patent #738598, 2/13/79 ). Endoscopical assessment of uterine content through the cervix after ruptured membranes allows assessing uterine scars after previous cesarean sections and performing fetal interventions.
Dr. Petrikovsky in collaboration with pediatric hematology group at North Shore University Hospital performed the first in-utero transfusion of platelets to the fetus with a rare genetic disease, thus saving the life of the baby. Results of this unique procedure were published in the journal of Prenatal Diagnosis.
Dr. Petrikovsky invented a new technology of detection endometrial cancer (PET smear) similar to the Pap smear. Menstrual flow content is used to screen for the disease.
Dr. Petrikovsky was named top OB/GYN by the consumers research Council of America on June 2005.
Dr. Petrikovsky completed his postgraduate training at SUNY downstate/Maimonides Medical Center (Brooklyn, NY ) and his fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Connecticut in 1988. That same year he was a visiting researcher at Kings College School of Medicine (London, UK), specializing in Fetal Medicine and Surgery. From 1992 to 1999 he served as a Chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at North Shore University Hospital.
Dr. Petrikovsky serves as a member of the editorial board of journals of neonatal intensive care, ultrasound diagnosis in obstetrics and pediatrics. He also serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Journal of Clinical Ultrasound and Obstetrics and Gynecology. His major professional interests are fetal medicine, prenatal diagnosis, fetoscopy, fetal cardiology, Ob/Gyn sonography, and invasive Ob/Gyn procedures. Dr. Petrikovsky has published over 100 peer reviewed articles and ten book chapters.
Dr. Petrikovsky has a busy private practice. Among his research awards are the Recognition Award of the Brooklyn Gynecologic Society, Obstetrical Society of Boston, Howard Levine MD Science Award, Bristol-Myers, Squibble/Mead Johnson Traveling Fellowship and the Award of the Italian Society of Perinatal Medicine.
Dr. Petrikovsky is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He is a Professor of Obsterics and Gynecology at New York University School of Medicine.
